WAY Device Locator

Getting Started

Overview
Once you have installed WAY on a device, you can track its location by way of text messages. If you lose your device you can send an SMS to WAY from any other phone. The software will intercept the message sent, get the geographical coordinates from the device's GPS and reply to you with an SMS detailing the latitude and longitude of your device.

This is very useful for finding lost devices or indeed locating vulnerable people for peace of mind. From the coordinates given, you can easily trace an actual address through reverse geocoding (see section Find the address from the geographical coordinates ).

How does it work
WAY runs on the device which needs to be monitored. Once installed different options can be set according to your requirements. Messages can be intercepted continuously even if the application is not running, or they can be intercepted only while the application is open, or interception can be disabled altogether.

When enabled, WAY will intercept messages containing a specific text which you define in the SMS screen of the application. When a message arrives WAY will check where the Pocket PC is and will send the location in a text message.

Uninstall
Start > Settings > System tab > Remove Programs > [Select CSfm WAY] > Remove
Note: before removing the program you need to stop the message interceptor: launch WAY > Start/Stop tab > click Stop). This ensures that the interceptor will stop checking messages in the background.
Sometimes the list of Programs in the Remove Programs does not display the last installed program, close it and reopen it a couple of times to show the correct list.

Locate my device
Once you have installed WAY on the device you need to monitor, send a text message using another phone; in the message body type in the words you specified in WAY under "SMS". You will receive a reply message with the geographical coordinates if your device is switched on.

Use the coordinates for reverse geocoding to get a postal address of the location (see section Find the address from the geographical coordinates).

Find the address from the geographical coordinates
From the coordinates sent by WAY you can easily trace an actual address through reverse geocoding. If you have TomTom or similar navigator software you can copy and paste the coordinates to find the actual position on a map. There are also web sites such as TravelGIS.com that provide this service free of charge.
